Holiday Workout Plan: How to Workout During the Holidays

Finding time to workout during the holidays can be a huge challenge. Schedules are packed, family is visiting, and the food is so good that it makes you want to immediately fall asleep on the couch. There is a lot of extra effort involved in maintaining your fitness progress and keeping a routine, but it is definitely possible. This year, the best way to stay on top of your goals is to come up with a solid holiday workout plan.

Workout During Holidays

These days, with limited gym capacities and so much to do at home, it can be difficult to find time to head to the gym. The truth is, it has never been more important to take care of your physical health. The holidays are when people tend to completely drop their health routines until the new year. The best way to stay on track throughout the season is to create a holiday workout plan, continue powering through gym sessions, and keep up your fitness routine.

Finding the Time to Get to the Gym

Just because the season has changed doesn’t mean that your personal health priorities go out the window. Staying in shape requires finding the time to take care of yourself — even when your to-do list is longer, and the days are shorter. Gift wrapping and baking can still be scheduled around a daily workout during the holidays. In fact, exercise can be an amazing stress reliever during these crazy, busy times.

Why is It More Important to Around the Holidays?

Squeezing in the time to workout during holidays can be tough. It’s super easy to let the festivities break us out of healthy routines. With the extra “cheat” days and rich foods being served, holding yourself accountable to is the best way to keep up with fitness goals.

This year, make a plan to celebrate, without losing all your hard-earned progress. Continuing to hit the gym will help prevent winter weight gain and keep you feeling great throughout the season. If you notice that you’re falling off the wagon with your exercise, keep reminding yourself of your fitness goals. Think back to how great you feel after a hard workout and get back on track.

Habits Changing with the Season

It’s can be a lot easier to go out and get a workout done in the spring and summer; the weather is nice and everyone is itching to get out and move. Finding the motivation to get a workout in throughout the winter can be a lot harder — even for the biggest fitness enthusiasts. Again, it’s important to recall the amazing progress you’ve made. Remind yourself of all work you put in throughout the rest of the year, and how difficult it can be to start from square one.

The best option is to bundle up and get to the gym. Even if you can’t leave the house, try to fit in some sort of workout during the holidays. Daily exercise is so important for keeping your mood elevated during the winter – when people are much more likely to feel emotionally down. Keeping your body moving throughout the colder months and sticking to a holiday workout plan will help keep your mind feeling sharp and energized, even when the weather is drearier.

Scheduling Your Time at the Gym

So, we know it’s important to keep moving throughout the holidays, but how do we do it? Create your holiday workout plan ahead of time, and make the most out of your time at the gym. Holding yourself accountable by adding workouts into your calendar will help get you up off the couch. Figure out what days you’re working out at least a week in advance. Then, you’ll know you have the time to take care of your body.

During the holidays, a morning workout can be the best option at DTC CrossFit. It allows you to get a workout done and out of the way – so you can get back to family for the rest of the day. It can be hard to find motivation to workout in the evening after a big meal, or when you’re spending time with loved ones. In that case, your holiday workout plan may be to get moving right after waking up in the morning, before the festivities begin.

Working Out at Home

Even if you can’t make it to the gym for your normal routine during the holidays, you can bridge the gap by squeezing in some at-home workouts. Use whatever resources are available at home, like free weights or resistance bands as a great, temporary solution. If you don’t have at-home workout equipment at your disposal, at least try to do some bodyweight exercises or outdoor cardio to get through until you can get back to the gym.

Once the holidays are over, try to quickly jump back into your workout routine (head to the gym, if possible), so you don’t lose motivation or progress. In fact, try to create some new, elevated fitness goals for the new year so you can continue improving your health and feeling great. You could even sign up for next year’s Denver CrossFit competition, and get training with some healthy motivation.

Helping You Stay Motivated

Don’t wait until after the new year to get back on your fitness routine – keep making progress through the end of the year with a holiday workout plan. Taking time every day to keep your body (and mind) healthy during the holidays will give you the added energy you need to enjoy and celebrate all the best parts of the season.
